A message from Mayor James M. Downer.

On behalf of Council and the Community of Midland, I welcome you to our Website. The Town of Midland is a dynamic community situated on Georgian Bay and based in the heart of one of our nation's most beautiful recreational areas.

Our motto on the Town's Coat of Arms is "Persequi Qualitatem Vitae" (Pursuit of Quality of Life).   Our goal is to provide a sound economic base, while maintaining a superb quality of life.  We offer a dynamic recreational waterfront, affordable housing, and all the essential amenities.  We are very safety and environmentally conscious whenever assessing our current and future development.

The Town of Midland bustles in the spring and summer months as tourists and residents, alike, take advantage of the many recreational opportunities.  Midland has a dynamic recreational waterfront, which includes the picturesque Harbour and the newly completed waterfront trail for walking, biking and rollerblading.  The summer season affords an opportunity to view the beautiful horticultural displays throughout Midland, of which we are the proud recipient of 4 Blooms from the 2000 Ontario Edition of Communities in Bloom, in the 10,001-20,000 Population Category.   Take a stroll through the hub of our downtown area and enjoy the array of boutiques, restaurants and services, as well as the historic murals painted on various buildings throughout the downtown core.

For those wishing to experience the culture and history of the area, we offer the Huronia Museum, Sainte Marie Among the Hurons, the Martyrs' Shrine and the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre.

Midland's hospitality is reflected in its many historic sites, museums, recreational areas and its friendly people.  We hope that our Website will allow you to gain a sense of our community and entice you to visit us this summer.  If you already live in Midland, we hope that you share our pride in this progressive community.

James M. Downer, Mayor
